“The training transformed me [and my ministry]. The people I have worked with know that I am not the same kind of pastor I used to be.”
“The approach was very different, because it was a workshop type of training. The students get to dig into the Word of God and discover the treasure that is inside. That brought freshness to the study of the Word of God. It wasn’t just someone coming and telling me the answers. I was discovering them. I said, ‘This is the training for me’ and [decided to focus on it].”
Joseph did focus on the training and is now a leader of a training movement in Kenya.
“If you are going to be a leader in our church as a pastor or elder, you need to go through this training. . . . I have been able to open four different churches and train young pastors who are planters. Close to 500 pastors have gone through our training in the 13 years I have known Doug [Dunton, of WordPartners]. We have covered almost half of the country with our pastoral training!”
Joseph is part of our East African leadership team and recently visited Ethiopia to learn from their team. Joseph described the experience as “my turning point” in leading the work in Kenya and is excited to implement what he learned. “Working together with our brothers in Africa has made us grow and has challenged me.”
