Liberia – Building Up among the Broken Down

After years of civil war and infrastructure not being rebuilt, Liberia is truly a broken-down country. “Broken down” is the description the pastors there gave to the people of Liberia as well.

Yet there are churches planting new churches every 18 months. People without much hope are responding to the hope of the gospel, and church planters with a mindset of multiplication are being sent out.

Solomon Davis, our host, oversees seven church-planter training centers throughout the country. However, evangelism and church planting are the extent of the training. They need Bible training – how to study and preach the Word of God – for these churches to become self-sustaining and self-governing.

After just a few hours in two introductory workshops, digging and discovering with 110 pastors, they were overwhelmed by the principle of “The Line.” Staying on the line of God’s Word — being faithful to what it actually says — was a convincing eye-opener for them. They erupted with thanksgiving! Now they are eager to apply what they have learned in future workshops.

This is an opportune time for WordPartners to get involved and see what God will do as we train these church planters in Word ministry. After all, they are already planning to train others to take the work forward.

In addition, Liberia is an English-speaking country in West Africa. These church planters have access to other English-speaking countries in the region, like Sierra Leone, Ghana, and Nigeria. Perhaps God will use this as the launching point to reach all of English-speaking West Africa.

The need there is great though, as there are not resources on the ground of much significance to help. However, these men have the desire, the mindset, and the network to see God’s Word elevated in pastors, pulpits, churches, and church-planting. They just need the training in how to do it.

Perhaps this is just the kind of investment in God’s kingdom that you’ve been praying for. Your gift today will help us start this new work and others like it with so much potential. Your partnership will help us build up the broken down with God’s life-giving Word.
